Former Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri, was questioned today for over 6 hours by the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime.

Mr. Gjiknuri did not specify the issue for which he gave explanations before the SPAK, while he described it as "normal, to be asked about a matter that he knows about due to his state duty", adding that "the details are part of the investigative secret". . According to local media, it is believed that Mr. Gjiknuri was asked about the incinerator affair, as Minister of Energy and Industry in 2013-2017, then Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.

He is among the most prominent names on the issue of incinerators from the opposition, which led a parliamentary investigative commission on these suspected corrupt affairs.

Meanwhile, during SPAK's investigations, Mr. Gjiknuri's name appeared in the file against former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, where it was found that in at least two cases, the entrepreneurs who won the incinerator contracts paid for his stay in hotels outside Albania.

But former minister Gjiknuri has stated that those work visits were covered by the institution's expenses, rejecting announcements about other funding./VOA
