Journalist: Albanian criminal groups strengthened internationally

Journalist Elkier Bushkolaj commented today regarding Albanian criminal groups that have been operating recently.

Invited to A2 CNN, Bushkolaj made a comparison with gangs from the '90s, while stating that today's groups are gaining strength even outside the territory of Albania.

According to the journalist, their activities have become dynamic, making it impossible not to find an active group in European countries.

"There is also the period from 2005 to 2009, which was a real crackdown on several criminal groups, the Durrës gang, the Lushnja gang, several criminal groups in Tirana, and crackdowns that were finalized in court decisions, in the seizure of assets, in the implementation of the anti-mafia law. Now, something has happened. We have seen the new phenomenon, we have seen the strengthening on the international level. So, if once our criminal groups had access or had activity in Italy or Greece and very little in Germany, now the activity has become much more dynamic. It is impossible to find a country in the European Union or the Nordic countries where we do not have files coming to us from international partners. In Latin America alone in the last 5-6 years we have had eight people killed," Bushkolaj said. /CNA
