Anri Kashiku, the 18-year-old who lost his life while trying to save his brother and a friend who were swept away by the waves in Durrës, has been declared "Martyr of the Fatherland." The prime minister gave the news to the family members on Friday afternoon while they opened the mortuary doors.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Niko Peleshi announced that he signed today the decision of the Central Commission for the Status of "Martyr of the Fatherland" to grant the status of "Martyr of the Fatherland" to Kashik.

Peleshi has also published a photo of the Certificate on his Facebook account.

"As a sign of gratitude and deep respect for his sublime sacrifice in an effort to save two lives, I signed today the decision of the Central Status Commission "Martyr of Ardheu" to grant the status of "Martyr of the Homeland" to Anri Kashik.
