President Ilir Meta, in a press statement, has listed the reasons for the request to reconsider the issue of administration and management of Butrint.

The President stressed that the agreement is not in line with international acts.

In his statement, Meta said that Butrint is an asset with universal values ??and can not be passed on to NGOs. He also asked the government to withdraw the agreement.

"It is the obligation of the Albanian state to preserve it. Butrint National Park is an immovable property. The responsibility for the preservation and administration of assets can not be transferred to a social body such as NGOs. It is not provided that these foundations have the right administration.The state if it were to apply this new form of administration would have to steadfastly safeguard decision-making interests.Another shortcoming is the fact of being awarded the title of strategic partner.

I assessed that this issue should be considered with maximum care by the Albanian Parliament. For such a property all the expertise of the UNESCO office should have been obtained.
