Leaders of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) appreciated the work of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and appreciated the dedication and commitment of its General Secretary Majlinda Bregu during her mandate.

Participants highlighted the RCC's role in achieving the Regional Common Market as a step towards the EU Single Market and recognized the progress of the four Western Balkan mobility agreements reached under the leadership of the RCC.

Leaders approved the appointment of Amer Kapetanovic as the new Secretary General of the RCC, effective January 1, 2025. SEECP Foreign Affairs Ministers appointed Kapetanovic at their meeting held earlier today. Kapetanovic will succeed Majlinda Bregun in this position, who has been the General Secretary of the RCC since January 1, 2019.

"I want to congratulate my esteemed colleague Amer on his appointment and wish him luck and success as my successor at the helm of the RCC starting next year. This is not an easy job, but it is rewarding nonetheless. Working together for almost the last 6 years we can proudly say that the RCC and regional cooperation gave many important results for the citizens of our region, but the road ahead of us is still long." said the General Secretary of the RCC, Majlinda Bregu.

"While we are running faster than time, we at the RCC are working on a reinforced Action Plan for a functioning Common Regional Market (CRM) as a prerequisite for closer and faster integration with the EU Single Market and as an important pillar of the Growth Plan. I am confident that this new phase of the Common Regional Market will support the growth of the region and strengthen its security", added Bregu.

"Regional cooperation should not only be the signing of agreements; full implementation of commitments, such as for freedom of movement, is necessary! Credibility is at risk and constant deadlocks and blockages are no longer affordable," concluded Bregu.

SEECP leaders, as well as foreign ministers, praised the excellent work of the RCC, approved the organization's Annual Report and expressed gratitude for the extraordinary efforts of the Secretary General of the RCC, Majlinda Bregu in the leadership of the RCC during the last almost six years that profiled the RCC as an indispensable partner and driving force of regional cooperation in Southeast Europe.

Leaders support the Regional Common Market coordinated by the RCC as the main instrument of economic integration within the Western Balkans and recognize human security and sustainability as the new priorities of the Southeast Europe 2030 Strategy, bringing focus to regional sustainability.

Newly elected RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanovic has been a career diplomat for the past 25 years, serving in various high-ranking diplomatic positions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. For the past six years, he has served as Political Director of the RCC. Kapetanovic is also the author of several books and numerous articles./ CNA
