Arrested for corruption/ GJKKO makes decision on former Elbasan judge

The appeal of the GJKKO upheld the 2-year probation sentence for former Elbasan judge Zamira Vyshka. Vyshka was arrested for corruption about 3 years ago.

Vyshkaj is also deprived of the right to exercise public functions for a period of 3 years.

The Supreme Court had ordered, after the defendants' appeal and recourse to the Supreme Court, which ordered the case to be returned to the Court of Appeal with another panel of judges.

But the new body also left the first instance in force. The sentence also remains in force for lawyer Ilir Pashaj, accused and defendant in the same trial file, who, due to serving a sentence of 1 year and 4 months in prison for the summary trial, is released from solitary confinement if he has no other criminal offense.

Judge Zamira Vyshka was arrested in July 2022 by order of SPAK, along with lawyer Ilir Pashaj, after receiving around 400 thousand lek in bribes to reduce the sentence by 6 months for prisoner Xhuliano Musai, accused of assault.

This decision came after the defendants appealed and resorted to the Supreme Court, which ordered the case to be returned to the Court of Appeal with another panel of judges.

But the new body also upheld the decision given by the first instance.

The sentence also remains in force for lawyer Ilir Pashaj, accused and defendant in the same case file, who, due to serving a sentence of 1 year and 4 months in prison on a summary trial, is released from solitary confinement if he has no other criminal offense. /CNA
