The General Directorate of Archives (DPA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the National Archives Agency of Moldova. Through this agreement, the General Director of the Archives, Ardit Bido, and his Moldovan counterpart, Igor Casu, ensure the exchange of documents, knowledge and experiences between the two archives.

In his speech to the media, Bido said that through this act, the development of cooperative archives and of the entire region is aimed.

"It is a pleasure to sign a very important cooperation agreement with the Archives of the Republic of Moldova, which, although they do not have a direct border with the Republic of Albania, share a part of our national history. The Moldovan archives contain the stories of Albanian immigrants and the early Albanian diaspora, who played an important role in our National Renaissance. But, even further than that. Modern Moldova was founded by Albanian princes, whose documents are found in the Moldavian archives, but which will now be in the Albanian archives as well. We have the opportunity to sign an agreement that will enable the exchange not only of all these documents, but also of human resources, knowledge, ideas, in order to advance our archives, as well as the archives of the entire region", said Bido.

Meanwhile, Casu described the cooperation agreement as a very good opportunity for the exchange of documents.

"I am very happy to be in the Albanian archive. I am confident that we will have a good cooperation in the exchange of documents. We have identified a number of documents of interest to Albania. I hope that next year we will have the opportunity to show an exhibition that will reflect the good relations between Albania and Moldova", said Casu.

The bilateral agreement is motivated by the aspiration for cooperation between the two sister archival institutions. Through this commitment, the signatory parties undertake to organize joint exhibitions on topics of mutual interest, participate in scientific and professional conferences and prepare joint collections of documents for publication.

Based on the principle of reciprocity, the DPA and the Moldovan sister organization undertake the exchange of specialists, in order to carry out joint research and study archival materials free of charge. This agreement has a validity of 5 years and may remain in force even beyond this term, in the absence of the will of the parties to end it.

In the framework of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the DPA, a busy calendar of activities was held. The DPA signed two other cooperation agreements with the State Archival Service of Ukraine and with the Archive of Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing respectively the exchange of documentation that mainly sheds light on the role of the Albanian diaspora in Ukraine and information on the community of our compatriots in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Also, a round table was held, where the representatives of the archives in the region and beyond, discussed the need to deepen the cooperation to face the challenges of the future. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the 8th National Archival Conference was organized, which will be crowned every year with the publication of the magazine "Arkivat Shqiptare", the only one of its kind in Albanian territory./ CNA
