The PL's vice-president, Erisa Xhixho, says that the massive abandonment of universities is an alarm bell for the state of university education in Albania.

Xixho, in her post on social networks, points out that the closure of hundreds of schools risks being followed by the closure of universities.

"The massive abandonment of universities is an alarm bell for the state of university education in the country.

 The new academic year started half-heartedly because more than half of the quotas were not filled.

The figures show the real state of higher education.  

• 1/2 of the quotas in all universities of the country are empty.

• 41.3% of branches are at risk of closing because there are no students

• 42.8% of study programs that are a national priority risk being closed as students have not shown interest in them.

 • There are 2321 less registered students than in 2023.

Teaching branches are in danger of closing. At the national level, we risk being left without physics, chemistry or mathematics teachers. This year, only 5 students were enrolled in the physics department and 8 in the chemistry department.

This is enough to understand that higher education is heading towards the abyss. The government has failed with education because it has never been a priority. Fraud with scholarships for priority branches has produced their massive dropout. The Ministry of Education never managed to offer young people a real alternative against leaving the country.

Only by strengthening education can we rebuild Albania. This empowerment does not come by talking about imaginary successes, but only through real policies that start from education budgeting at the level of 5% of GDP, funding of scientific research and up to specific strategies for each branch and study program.

The Freedom Party has education as one of its five priorities because it strongly believes that through it the depopulation of the country can be stopped.
