The French actor and producer, the star of world cinema, Alain Delon has died at the age of 88.

The news is confirmed by his three children for "AFP".

It is known that the French producer had been suffering from a tumor for some time and the disease took his life this Sunday morning.

His family have released a message saying that Delon closed his eyes for good at his home, while asking for privacy.

"Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, as well as (his dog) Loubo, are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father.

He passed away peacefully at his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and family.

"His family asks you to respect privacy at this extremely painful time of mourning," the message reads.

Delon starred in hits of the 1960s, including "The Leopard", "Rocco and his Brothers", "Le Samourai", etc.

Since the 1990s, his film appearances have been rarer. In total, he starred in more than 90 films during his career./ CNA
