This morning, Fredi Beleri left Fier prison, after taking 5 days leave to be sworn in as an MEP from the "New Democracy" party of Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

It is learned that his freedom will last only 5 days, this permission approved by the General Directorate of Prisons.

During the prison premises, he was received by his wife and the car of the Greek embassy.

Meanwhile, in a short statement to the media, Beleri said that today he feels happy. 

"I want to thank you for the support during all these months, I am excited, happy, we will talk about the rest in Athens. Thank you for everything", he said. 

Beleri is traveling to Athens unaccompanied by officers. Then, from Athens, he will leave for Strasbourg, where on July 16 he will be sworn in as an MEP in the European Parliament.

The Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime decided a few months ago to sentence Beleri to two years in prison, accused of active corruption in the May 14, 2023 elections.

A few days ago, during a meeting, the CEC declared his mandate invalid./ CNA
