The Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali, reacted after criticism from the European Union and the US Embassy, ??for not sending the mandate of Olta Xhaçka to the Constitutional Court.

Spiropali said that he has addressed the Venice Commission on how to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court and will act according to their opinion.

"I fully share the conviction that the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court by the Parliament is an essential issue, as it is related to the institutional checks and balances in the country's democratic system.

That is why I emphasized during the opening of the parliamentary session last week, as a priority, the need for the Assembly to follow the remaining decisions of the Constitutional Court. Yesterday's vote demonstrated that the decision of the Constitutional Court of a year and a half ago and more recently the one of July 2024, needs the clarification that has been requested for so long.

Precisely for the purpose of obtaining this clarification and putting an end to the ambiguity that has accompanied the Assembly, regarding the way of implementing the decision, I have immediately turned today to the Venice Commission as an instance with indisputable prestige and competence.

As soon as we receive the relevant opinion from the Venice Commission, we will act according to that opinion without wasting another day", declared Spiropali./ CNA
