In the Murrizi tunnel, part of Rruga e Arbri, work is being done on concreting the last 400 meters. The work has not stopped for a moment, while the geology and the numerous water sources in the area have influenced the pace of the works.
The work is continuing in both directions with the aim that at the end of this year the tunnel will be opened for vehicle traffic, thus completing one of the most important works of Arbri Road.
The Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, as well as representatives of the company, which is carrying out the works, were at the site where they closely followed the progress of this work.
87% is the progress of the works so far, while the representatives of the company presented in detail the large volume of work that has been carried out in this tunnel, also responding to the problems in the area. Also part of this work are 11 connecting tunnels, which connect the main tunnel with the emergency one.
During the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku emphasized the importance of this work, which will significantly shorten the distance between the district of Dibra and the capital, simultaneously promoting the economic development of the area, where the number of accommodation units and the number of visitors have increased in recent years.
Work on the tunnel continues at a fast pace, Balluku said, aiming for its completion by 2024.
"We have set ourselves some deadlines that I really hope we can meet, as this is an incredible access to the northeast of the country and then to the north. Dibra considers this road very important, but not only Dibra, as today the whole province of Mati is also developing in terms of agrotourism and other industrial units. It must be said that it is an access to two border points with North Macedonia and it is certainly one of the most important roads connecting the capital. So I very much hope that this tunnel, as the conclusion and crowning of this work, of the entire Arbri Street, will be closed within 2024 and probably it looks like things are moving forward", said Balluku.
The Murriz tunnel has a length of 3.78 kilometers and consists of two tubes, the traffic one and the emergency one.
