The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, spoke after the end of the meeting of the Conference of Speakers. Balla stated that the investigative commissions requested by the opposition were rejected because they were not in accordance with the Constitution.

Regarding the request to establish an Investigative Commission for the National Anti-Corruption Commission, he said that the Assembly cannot intervene in an issue where another power is involved.

"Requests for the establishment of commissions must respect several principles. The first is the principle of the right of the requesting party. But this request must be viewed from the perspective that there are limitations in terms of content. They must be in accordance with the Constitution and not overlap with other powers.

The first request that was considered on the agenda was from an opposition MP to investigate Mother Nature, the weather, because it has brought a lot of rain. It was requested that all procedures from 2014 to 2025 be investigated, but it was not said what they want to investigate.

"The other request was for an investigative commission for an issue where another power is involved. So the Assembly cannot intervene for investigations when another power is doing it. Our desire to approve the opposition's requests is unlimited but they must come in the form that the Constitution allows. The opposition must come with something concrete when requesting a commission ," said Balla.

Asked what he thinks about Erion Braça's self-offering as a candidate for Tirana mayor, Balla said that there is plenty of time to discuss this issue.

"I have not heard any criticism, but I want to say that in the Socialist Party everyone has the right to say whatever they think. As for the ambition of every socialist regarding the upcoming electoral process, we will have time to discuss this issue ," he said. /CNA
