Hearing on Gërdec/Mediu: If the contract had been implemented, there would

The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, spoke to the media after leaving the Special Court where the next hearing on the "Gërdeci" case was held.

Mediu stated that the order given by him in his capacity as Minister of Defense was not for the dismantling of the weapons, but only for their transfer from the Armed Forces to the company.

Among other things, he stated that if all points of the contract had been implemented, the explosion in Gerdec would not have occurred.

"The minister's orders had an individual administrative character and a ministerial order did not become a law or a VKM. There is no legal gap for the handling of ammunition in the Armed Forces, this was also ascertained by the prosecution experts. The minister's act is not a dismantling order, I gave an order for the transfer of ammunition from the Army to MEKO. The contract then provides for the details. If what was included in the contract had been implemented, there would not have been an explosion and a situation like what happened ," he said.

The charge against Mediu is related to the decision to allow the dismantling of ammunition by a private company, near residential areas, without strict supervision and without sufficient security. /CNA
