Records Authority: 55 individuals find no trace of their suffering in former

55 citizens who have served sentences in internment camps have not found themselves in the documents of the former State Security.

This news was announced by the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security.

In the announcement of the Files Authority, it is stated that these persons were children who accompanied their parents during the sentence or were born in exile.

The Files Authority declares that a child raised in exile, under the heavy weight of political stigmatization, as an enemy child, in difficult living conditions, both physical and psychological, is as damaged as his parent.

The authority emphasizes that it has requested the intervention of the Parliament to guarantee justice for them.

Full statement:

55 citizens have not found themselves in the documents of the Former State Security, while they are looking for documents that prove the serving of punishment in the internment camps.

Mostly they were children who accompanied their parents during the sentence or were born in exile. Many of them are traumatized, some have moved on in life, but others have been disabled and this period of suffering is not recognized as compensation.

The Citizen Claims and Rehabilitation Services Sector has handled a total of:

154 requests during the period January - October 2024. The requests include:

- confirmation of the period of internment,

- proof of serving a prison sentence

- information according to Article 20 of the law on the right to information.

30 requests for proof of imprisonment for the purpose of rehabilitation or compensation;

112 requests for confirmation of the execution of the deportation for the effect of calculating the pension;

6 requests, according to Article 20 of Law 45/2015 for the right of recognition with the documents of the former State Insurance.

71 requests with positive answers.

55 requests without data, (children or those born in exile)

12 requests are in process.

The treatment of requests by the specialists of this sector revealed that many of the citizens who were children during the period of internment, have undocumented their persecution. This is a barrier that the Authority is working to remove, so that these children will also be recognized for the persecution and benefit from financial compensation.

A child raised in exile, under the heavy weight of political stigmatization, as an enemy child, in difficult living conditions, both physical and psychological, is as damaged as his parent. The authority has requested the intervention of the parliament to guarantee justice for them.

The extension of benefits to internees in barbed wire camps, to minors and those born in internment is being sought through documentation to prove periods of internment with alternative sources, such as police files and survivor testimonies.

This vital service, provided by AIDSSH, not only helps citizens receive financial compensation and recognize years of work for pension effect, but is a step towards justice and rehabilitation for former persecuted and political exiles.

The desire to understand the past and to seek justice is a strong evidence of the commitment of citizens to keep alive the memory of the difficult periods that they and their families have gone through, so we at AIDSSH will continue our work in unraveling the destinies theirs./ CNA
