GJKKO's appeal has upheld the 2-year prison sentence for the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, for the charge of vote-buying.
He also sentenced Pandeli Kokavesh, accused of being an accomplice of Beler, to 1 year and 6 months in prison. His sentence will be commuted to probation for 3 years.
Beleri and Kokaveshi claim innocence for the vote-buying charge, but the GJKKO Appeal "overthrew" them this Tuesday.
Beleri was arrested on May 12 in Himare, just 2 days before the local elections on May 14, 2023. The arrest came after the denunciation to the prosecutor's office by the associate of justice, who had indicated that he had been offered money in exchange for votes.
On June 10, Fredi Beleri was elected MEP in Greece, where he received 237,000 votes and was the fourth most voted MEP in the Greek state./ CNA
