The American Embassy in Tirana has called on all citizens to protest in front of the Tirana City Hall, but with peaceful means. 

In response, it is emphasized that the right to assemble peacefully, to protest and to demand action against corruption are all vital in any democracy . 

The Embassy of the United States condemns the acts of violence during today's protest near the Municipality of Tirana. The right to peacefully assemble, protest and demand action against corruption are all vital in any democracy, but there is no place for the violence undertaken by the organizers," the statement said.

The third protest in front of the Municipality of Tirana lasted almost two hours, where the citizens demanded the resignation of the mayor Erion Veliaj at all costs.

There was no shortage of tensions and clashes with the police, as the protesters tried to get inside the town hall building. Flares and bottles were also thrown, as a result of which a fire was created in front of the building.

They tried to remove the barriers as well, but dozens of police forces surrounded the building and did not allow citizens to enter this institution. 

Even the members of the Municipal Council, who accused the police of being collaborators of Erion Veliaj, were not even allowed to enter the municipality. /CNA
