DP's accusations of expired medications/ QSUT: Untruths, the system does

The "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center has reacted to the statements of the deputy of the DP, Albana Vokshi, that expired medications are used in this Pediatrician.

In the reaction of QSUT, it is emphasized that the news published in the media are untrue. 

"We clarify that in the SISP electronic system, the movement of medications at all levels, from the Central Pharmacy to the patient level, takes place only within the validity (expiration) of the medication, and after this period, any movement is automatically blocked by the system at all levels" , says the reaction. 

Further in the response, it is underlined that "actions in the system are mainly done after 16.00 in order to avoid their movement by mistake by users to other levels (in charge of hospital pharmacies or head nurses of wards) that operate in the system until 16.00". 

Full statement: 

We inform all citizens that the latest news published by some media about the quality of medications used in the QSUT, are FALSE! NO EXPIRED MEDICINES ARE USED AT QSUT! What has been served as "documents" and "evidence" are related to the administrative management process, and are NOT related in any case to the physical movement of the amount of stored medications and even more so to their use for patients.
THIS IS EASILY PROVEN at the Hospital Pharmacy. 

Raising these baseless claims is INTENTIONALLY HARMING the work of the medical team at the service of patients!

We clarify that in the SISP electronic system, the movement of medications at all levels, from the Central Pharmacy to the patient level, takes place only within the validity (expiration) of the medication, and after this period, any movement is automatically blocked by the system at all levels.

We emphasize that for the daily therapy of the patient, IT IS BLOCKED AND IMPOSSIBLE to discharge an expired medication. THERE IS NO CASE OR POSSIBILITY OF CHANGING THE EXPIRY OF A MEDICATION.

Regarding the alleged case, we emphasize that for administrative needs, in order to differentiate the expired medication, the transfer of the amount of expired medication from one warehouse to another was requested. This is because the physically expired medication must be moved to the quarantine defined for the storage of expired medications, according to the rules in force.

This procedure is being used speculatively as a case where these drugs have been used on patients. We assure that this did not happen and that the stock quantity of expired medications is unchanged. If it had been used, there would have been a change in the stock condition, which proves that this claim deliberately put in the media is misleading.

Actions in the system are mainly done after 16.00 in order to avoid their movement by mistake by users to other levels (in charge of hospital pharmacies or head nurses of wards) that operate in the system until 16.00.

Regarding the quote that the Parliament was deceived, in official correspondence QSUNT stated that: "Currently in the Central Pharmacy there is NO quantity of the drug Feiba (Factor VIII inhibitor bypassing activity) 1000 UI Vial...; This, since the remaining quantity of 1137 flak from the donation received for the first time in 2023, with a budget impact of 0 (zero) lek, is unusable. We also clarify that the drug FEIBA is not a chemotherapy drug._
