Tragic accident in Durrës/ Hita demands changes to the Highway and Criminal

The Head of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has spoken about the tragic accident in Durrës where two minors lost their lives, while another child is in the Trauma Hospital.

Hita stated that the suspension of the police officers is related to the verification that the Directorate of Professional Standards is conducting to see step by step the entire procedure of how the police officers acted in that area.

Hita further stated that the time has come to intervene in the Traffic Code and the Criminal Code.

The case of the accident in Durrës, according to Hita, showed that road murders are events as serious as any other criminal event.

"Changes to the Traffic Code or the Criminal Code definitely take time and I believe that the time has come and it is more than normal to have such interventions. The latest case best shows that road murders are events as serious as any other criminal event. So in this context, in addition to these measures, we must also look at and increase the rest of the administrative fines, since even for incorrect parking that is often the source of accidents and fatal events, the punitive measures we have are very low. So in this context, we will take our initiative to make changes to the Criminal Code and the Traffic Code to have as much road safety as possible for all citizens and road users," said Hita.
