Doctor Ilir Alimehmeti has spoken about the sterilization scandal.
According to him, the public system had all the possibilities to carry out this system by itself without turning to the concessionaire.
Alimehmeti says that the problem is not that we don't want sterilisation, the problem which has been caught by SPAK and the court says that for this service the state had the opportunity to perform it itself, over 100 million euros were paid through this concession in an abusive way to a company private.
Excerpt from Ilir Alimehmeti's speech for SYRI TV:
"This is a method of putting forward some kind of information to people as if nothing is happening, as if everything is fine. Since 2012, the then minister Beqaj has been informed, through the director of the Manastriliu hospital, who is now the minister, that this system was present and was not being put to work.
With an official letter, he informs and does not put this system into operation, which from the high control system of the state says very clearly that it had the capacity to make sterilization possible for the whole of Albania in the figure of about 3000 interventions, which is located and in the feasibility report that set up the commission, which is now under investigation, but there are a number of interventions that made sense and remain there because for the 21st, it is about these shifts that the KLSH talks about. It means: the public system had all the possibilities to carry out this system by itself without turning to the concessionaire.
It was an investment made since 2012 and not put to work, it was enough to put it to work, to get the staff to work, to fill in any need that might be missing and this is also the letter of Mr. Shkëlqim Cami, then minister of finance, which he directs to the minister of health, Ilir Beqaj, and tells him why they will go through a concession when it can be done through public procurement.
The problem is not that we don't want sterilization, the problem that was caught by SPAK and the court says that for this service the state had the opportunity to perform it itself, over 100 million euros were paid through this concession in an abusive way to a private company.
The third and most important problem is because these prices were inflated so much that they should never have been so high, 13.5 million euros per year, while previously in 2011-2022 a figure close to 250- 300 thousand euros. Here we have a very big difference. These lack of money are investments that have been taken away from other health sectors that are lacking in services to patients today, and on the other hand, in order to keep these inflated costs under control, there was no other way for the health system than to force doctors through documents to limit the number of operations. This is definitely to the detriment of people.
We cannot cover the sun with a sieve and say that problems do not exist. What Mr. Beqaj and his feasibility commission did is to donate this system to the private sector. Public money that he gave to the private, and the latter, using the system that we had paid for, asked us for more money to put it to work."/ CNA
