Can hackers interfere in the elections?/ The deputy commissioner of the CEC

Cyber ??attacks from Iran on our state systems are being carried out with the fear that the hackers could interfere in the process or the outcome of the elections.

But the deputy commissioner of the Central Election Commission, Lealba Pelinku, rejects such a thing.

In an interview for Euroneës Albania, Pelinku said that the systems are closed for electronic voting and counting, but also for electronic identification.

"Fortunately, in the case of information technology that is applied both for electronic voting and counting, as well as for electronic identification, they are closed systems, so they have no communication with electronic networks. There is no risk of interference and moreover of data deformation or manipulation.

At the end of the voting process, the device produces a report with a code that is read by the operator and sent to the CEC via the operator's phone, and this constitutes what is called a preliminary result, to then become the final table of results . Even for electronic identification, the same practice will be followed", she emphasized.

May 14, 2023 has been decreed by President Bajram Begaj as the date of local elections.
