March 7 has become a holiday for teachers and educators and is celebrated in all schools of the country as a sign of thanks and gratitude for their sacred mission, the dissemination of knowledge and the education of generations.

As today 136 years ago, in 1887, the first Albanian School was opened in Korça. Its teacher and first director was Pandeli Sotiri.

 Veç tjerash kjo ngjarje ishte një fitore e madhe për popullin shqiptar, pasi deri atëherë dhënia e mësimeve për shkak të pushtimit osman bëhej privatisht brenda shtëpive në mënyrë të fshehtë. Kështu që nga ajo ditë 7 marsi festohet në Shqipëri si dita e mësuesit për të përkujtuar atë ngjarje të rëndësishme kulturore dhe historike.

Edhe pse në kushte të vështira, kur mësimi i gjuhës shqipe për shkak të kushteve të ndodhura nën sundimin osman ishte rreptësisht i ndaluar, mësonjëtorja e Korçës qëndroi e hapur për gati 20 vjet.

Drejtues të saj ishin figura të njohura të Rilindjes shqiptare si: Pandeli Sotiri, Petro Nini Luarasi, Nuçi Naçi, Thoma Avrami, etj.

Kontributi i madh që këta atdhetarë dhe veprimtarë të shquar dhanë për kombin, dëshmohet nga dëshira e zjarrtë që ata kishin për të përhapur dijen në popull.

With the opportunities they had, they became the initiators of the creation of the first documented textbooks.

They devoted a great deal of importance to equipping them with the right teaching tools, in order to further distribute them to their students.

Educated with the high spirit of patriotism, these students would in the future become worthy followers of their teachers' ideology and devoted fighters in the fight for freedom and independence./ CNA.al
