"January 21"/ Former prosecutor: The main conclusion from
Former Prosecutor of Serious Crimes, Eugen Beci

The former Prosecutor of Serious Crimes, Eugen Beci, spoke about the decision of the Strasbourg Court on "January 21".

In an interview for Euronews, he stated that the first and main conclusion from the Strasbourg Court is that the Republic of Albania has very large shortcomings in the legislation on the use of firearms by state authorities.

According to him, the investigation efforts should continue and the process should continue.

"The first and main conclusion from the Strasbourg Court is that the Republic of Albania has very large deficiencies in the legislation regarding the use of firearms by state authorities (Garda and Police) and the second has very large deficiencies in the legislation in terms of the way of the protection of these important state properties, as was the case of the Prime Minister's Office. The court has said that the way of protecting the headquarters of the Prime Minister has gone beyond any form, severely violating Article 2 of the European Convention, which is the right to life. The first adjustment that is made is the legislation.

Regarding the reopening process, violations of Article 2, the Court was clear that the force was exceeded, we have an unjustified murder. Regarding the procedural moments, we must be attentive. Regarding the issues of preliminary investigations, the Strasbourg Court has no direct intervention in the internal Albanian legislation. Because the case of Aleks Nika's murder is open in the Court of Tirana as an investigation. So what reinvestigation are we looking for? It is good to continue the efforts for the investigations and continue the process. The court has also determined the shortcomings in the investigation", said Beci. / CNA
