113th Anniversary of Independence/ Today, Albania celebrates Flag Day

Today, Albania celebrates the 113th anniversary of Independence. On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the flag in Vlora, declaring Albania an independent state.

Like today, on November 28, 1912, in Vlora, the flag was raised and the historic National Assembly was opened with 40 delegates, but it took more years and representation in Congresses and chancelleries of Western countries for Albania to be recognized as such by the powers and states of the time.

On November 28, Albanians remember the event of 1912 that took place in Vlora, where the national flag was raised, a symbol of freedom, independence, and dreams for a better future for the Albanian nation among the advanced nations of the world.

On this day, Ismail Qemali was proclaimed Speaker of the Parliament and the first Prime Minister of the Albanian state.

With the act of declaring Albania's independence, the head of the Provisional Government, Ismail Qemali, notified the six Great Powers, England, Italy, Austria-Hungary, France, Germany and Russia.

Likewise, the Balkan states, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, were notified, requesting recognition of independence, as a natural consequence of the will of the Albanian people.

The Act of Declaration of Independence constitutes one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people. It was the fruit of centuries of efforts and wars of the Albanians to protect the territorial integrity of the homeland and to form the independent Albanian state.

With the decision of the Vlora Assembly, the Albanian nation gained its undeniable right to be free and independent, alongside other nations and peoples of Europe./ CNA
