Albania, one of the best destinations for solo adventure travel in 2025

After a tremendous surge in popularity as a summer destination on TikTok – with over 4.9 million posts about the country – Albania has attracted global attention with its crystal clear waters, warm climate and untouched coastlines.

This has led to the country being dubbed the "Maldives of Europe" and ranked 5th among the world's best destinations for solo adventure travel for 2025.

In addition to the stunning coastline, the impressive mountains of the north are also attracting more and more attention, offering another side of Albania – wild, pristine, and suitable for adventurers traveling alone.

Much Better Adventures, a British platform specializing in organizing adventure and sustainable travel, has compiled a list of the best places for solo adventure travel for 2025, based on feedback from its customers, as well as safety ratings, biodiversity index, affordability, flight times and ease of entry from the United Kingdom.

Although slightly less developed and refined than its neighbor Greece, Albania is a diamond in the rough for those seeking truly authentic culture, quaint towns, and beautiful beaches, in addition to a safe and affordable adventure.

“The country can still get overcrowded during the summer months, so our expert advice is to avoid Albania’s peak season and travel during the off-seasons. We’re talking April-May and September-October. That way you can enjoy all the beauty of the country for yourself – and help spread tourism revenue more sustainably throughout the year.”

“During the summer, you only see the bright, shiny side of a beach resort,” says guide and expert Ricardo Fahrig. “While in the off-season you see what’s really going on – without the crowds.”

Adventure enthusiasts have a whole world to explore in the country’s diverse landscapes, like hiking and wild swimming in the Albanian Alps – some of the highest peaks in the Balkans. There’s also kayaking on the Adriatic Sea and cycling through epic landscapes, from the shores of Lake Ohrid to rugged mountain passes.
