Melania Trump, stylish return to the White House

Melania Trump returned to Washington for the second time as First Lady of America and, among other things, had a stylish comeback.

The first lady, who was dressed in a navy blue dress and a hat for the occasion, and President Donald Trump stopped by the White House and St. John's Episcopal Church on Monday morning before heading to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda for the presidential inauguration.

Style experts explain that Melania Trump's style is more "aspirational," with a focus on designs from high-end fashion houses like Dior and Versace.

"She's drawn to designers who have the stamp of approval of the fashion establishment in terms of silhouette, she likes dresses that have structure, that often have a waist. She likes a pencil skirt. She likes a pointed shoulder. She often wears inspired suits."

First ladies' fashion has long been associated with the unspoken messages conveyed in their clothing choices. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis elevated the status of first lady to that of royalty with her pillbox hats and tailored pastel suits, while Michelle Obama emphasized inclusivity with her relaxed, affordable separates.
