OpenAI and Perplexity challenge Google in online web search with AI-powered

Two major artificial intelligence (AI) companies are reportedly launching web browsers to rival Google Search's dominance.

Perplexity AI announced that it launched 'Comet', a standalone search engine for Mac and Windows that bypasses traditional browsers like Google Chrome or Apple's Safari.

The search engine is so far only available to people subscribed to Perplexity Max and a small group of people who received invitations to try out the new platform.

In a demonstration of the new search engine, a user searches Perplexity and asks it to compile a shopping list for two dishes that can be accessed on a food website, and then generates a recipe to prepare it.

Meanwhile, not much is known about OpenAI's project yet, but two sources told Reuters that the browser will keep users' interactions with the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot instead of clicking through to different web pages.

The browser launch is part of OpenAI's strategy to integrate services into people 's personal and work lives./CNA
