OFFICIAL/ This is when sports betting will open in Albania

As it was rumored some time ago, sports betting will be opened starting from the beginning of the new year.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy has published the draft budget for 2023, where what stands out is the inclusion of sports betting, which will come into effect on January 1, 2023.

The draft budget predicts a slowdown in economic growth, which is influenced by developments in the global economy and that of the European Union.

So, in the next year, "online" bets are expected to "absorb" 2 billion ALL.

"2 billion new lek are the expected income from gambling, 'sports betting'.

From January 1, 2023, it is estimated that 2 billion ALL will be collected in the state budget", it is stated in the draft budget of the next year.

Sports betting was banned by a government decision, which came into effect on January 1, 2019, and after three full years, it will return again.

It is not yet known how much of these revenues, which are planned to be used in the state budget, will go to sports, as there has been a long debate about this part as well, where the sports federations in the country have insisted in time for the opening of "online" bets.

It remains to be seen what sport will benefit from the money that will be collected from sports betting in Albania.
