Van Dijk: The future as a coach? Never say never

"Never say never", - this is how the Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk, answered in a recent interview, when he was asked about the possibility of becoming a coach after leaving football.

The 33-year-old Dutchman said that he does not have in his immediate plans to be a coach, but he did not rule it out as a possibility either.

“I said no, but it is an ethical choice… in this busy and stressful life where my family is sacrificing a lot, I want to spend time with my wife and son. I want to have a year or two off and then come back... I don't think I will become a coach, but never say never," he said initially.  

Furthermore, Van Dijk added that he would like to stay in football in the future, but without specifying the position he would like to have.

"I would like to stay in football in the future, but at the moment I don't know in what role and it's too far to think about it," concludes the Dutchman.

Virgil Van Dijk's contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2025, with the parties yet to take any steps to renew it. /CNA
