Brazilian Federation president dismissed, Ancelotti's future decided

A Rio de Janeiro court has ordered the dismissal of Ednaldo Rodrigues as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The decision was made by judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zefiro, who declared invalid an agreement that had allowed Rodrigues to be re-elected until 2030.

According to the court, one of the signatories of the agreement, Antonio Carlos Nunes, had been mentally disabled since 2018 due to a brain tumor, casting doubt on the validity of his signature.

Rodrigues was replaced as interim president by Fernando Sarney, one of the CBF vice-presidents and one of the initiators of the lawsuit that led to Rodrigues' dismissal. Sarney has been tasked with organizing new elections as soon as possible.

This is the second time Rodrigues has been removed from his post as CBF president. In December 2023, he was removed from office due to legal disputes, but was reinstated in January 2024 following a ruling by Brazil's Supreme Court.

Rodrigues' dismissal came just days after he announced the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian national team. Despite the changes in the CBF leadership, Sarney confirmed that Ancelotti's contract remains in force and that he will begin his duties as Brazil coach after the end of the season with Real Madrid.
