Turkey complains to FIFA, demands replay of match

The Turkish Football Federation has asked FIFA to replay the match lost to Paraguay, which cost them an early elimination from the World Cup.

This sensational backstage incident was revealed by the Italian daily "La Gazzetta dello Sport". The reason for this unusual protest is related to the decision of the referee of the match, Ivan Barton, who did not punish the Paraguayan player, Matias Galarza, with a second yellow card.

According to Turkey, Galarza should have been given a red card after finding and putting his hand on the referee's lost watch during a tense moment on the pitch, before returning it to the whistle, an action for which the referee "forgave" him without punishing him.

However, FIFA immediately dismissed Turkey's appeal, refusing the request for a replay of the match.
