Behind the scenes/ Guardiola England coach? An agreement had been reached between the parties

The English Football Association had selected Pep Guardiola as the leading candidate to replace Gareth Southgate after Euro 2024.

According to reports, the FA had also reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish coach, but he decided to continue for another season at Manchester City.

For this reason, the management of England was entrusted to Thomas Tuchel, who took office on 1 January 2025. Under his leadership, England secured qualification for the World Cup with eight wins from eight matches and without conceding a goal. At the World Cup, the English passed the group stage, eliminating the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico and Norway, but were stopped in the semi-finals by Argentina with a score of 2-1.

After the elimination, Tuchel faced criticism, while recently revealed behind-the-scenes footage shows that Guardiola had been the English federation's first choice.
