The World Cup final could last longer

The World Cup final could bring a significant change to the traditional match format, as the break between the two halves is expected to last between 20 and 25 minutes.

The reason is related to the organization of an 11-minute musical spectacle at the “Met Life” stadium, in the style of the Super Bowl final. Among the artists rumored to perform are Madonna, Shakira and the group BTS. FIFA is considering two variants, a total break of about 20 minutes or the development of the spectacle after the standard interval of 15 minutes.

The IFAB regulations stipulate that the break between halves should not exceed 15 minutes, which has sparked debate over whether the Laws of the Game are being respected. A similar format was applied in the Club World Cup final, where the break lasted 24 minutes.

The final will be played on Sunday where Spain will face Argentina.
