Suspicions of political interference, investigation against Infantino begins

The International Olympic Committee has launched an investigation into whether FIFA President Gianni Infantino had any influence over the lifting of the suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun before the United States' match against Belgium.

The issue gained attention after reports of a phone call between Donald Trump and Infantino regarding the case. The FIFA president has denied any interference in the decision of the competent disciplinary body.

However, the admission of communication between him and Trump has raised questions about the decision-making process. The International Olympic Committee's investigation came after a request from the FairSquare organization.

This organization deals with issues related to the rights of migrant workers, sports and other social issues. Infantino has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2020. The investigation aims to clarify whether there were political influences in the process that led to Balogun's activism against Belgium.
