World Cup final, referee to referee Spain-Argentina announced

Slovenian Slavko Vincic has been appointed by FIFA as the main referee of the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, to be played on July 19.

With this appointment, the 46-year-old from Maribor becomes the first Slovenian referee to officiate a World Cup final. Vincic said that this is the most important moment of his career and a dream come true for any referee. He also praised the contribution of his assistants Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic.

During his career, Vincic has refereed the 2022 Europa League final, the 2024 Champions League final and the Euro 2024 semi-final between France and Spain. At the 2026 World Cup, he refereed the Brazil-Morocco, Jordan-Algeria and Mexico-Ecuador matches.

Pierluigi Collina stressed that the selection of the final referee is based on performances throughout the tournament. In the grand final, Adham Makhadmeh will be the fourth official, while Mohammad Al-Khalaf will serve as the reserve assistant.
