Goalkeeper plays hero, Curacao surprises at World Cup

The Ecuador national team recorded a disappointing goalless draw against Curacao in the match valid for Group E of the 2026 World Cup, held in Kansas City.

The absolute protagonist of this challenge was Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room, who with a series of decisive saves denied Ecuadorian strikers such as Enner Valencia, Gonzalo Plata and John Yeboah a goal.

Ecuador completely dominated possession and created numerous chances, but were unable to break down the defense of the Caribbean team, which secured its first historic point in a World Cup.

In the second half, Curaçao took a chance on counterattacks through Leandro Bacuna, but goalkeeper Galindez was alert. After this result, Ecuador will definitely need to win their final match against Germany to hope to qualify, while Curaçao remains in the race if they beat Ivory Coast.
