Netherlands punished at the end, Japan gets points after 4 goals

The Netherlands and Japan drew 2-2 in their first Group F match at the World Cup.

The Netherlands created the best chances in the first half with Donyell Malen and Micky van de Ven, but failed to score.

The first goal of the match came in the 51st minute, when Virgil van Dijk headed in after an assist from Ryan Gravenberch.

Japan responded quickly and equalized in the 57th minute through Keito Nakamura, following a pass from Takefuso Kubo. The Netherlands took the lead again through Crysencio Summerville, who scored on his debut at a major tournament.

When it seemed that the Dutch would take all three points, Japan found the 2-2 goal in the 89th minute through Koki Ogawa after a corner kick from Junya Ito.

With this result, both teams start their adventure in the 2026 World Cup with one point.
