Unprecedented/ The team made eight substitutions in the Cup

Go Ahead Eagles made history during a Dutch Cup match against Roda, not for the result, but for the way the rules were applied.

The match ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time, with the Eagles winning on penalties. The team made a total of eight substitutions during the match, an unprecedented feat.

Five substitutions were made in 90 minutes, while another was automatically allowed in extra time. After an aerial collision, two players suffered head injuries and the "white substitution" rule was activated.

This rule brought an additional substitution for the Eagles and, for sporting balance, another one after the similar substitution by Roda.

All substitutions were made in full compliance with the regulations. The case was noted as an example of the correct and maximum application of the law of the game.
