Bayern Munich surrenders, president confirms Wirtz's new team

Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has said that sporting director Max Eberl has informed him of a possible deal between Wirtz and the English club.

This statement confirms that the German will not be moving to Bayern, although it had been an option discussed.

"The director, Max Eberl, has informed me that Florian Wirtz is heading to Liverpool. I don't know anything more and I can't say anything more than that," Hainer said briefly.

Liverpool have accelerated negotiations and have received the player's approval. The deal with Bayer Leverkusen, where Wirtz has a contract until 2027, remains to be finalised.

Manchester City showed interest but later withdrew from the race. Wirtz has preferred a move to Liverpool, where he is seen as part of the new project. The transfer is expected to be made official in the coming weeks.
