Domestic violence has always been a disturbing phenomenon in Albanian families, while recently, we see an increase in denunciations.

Sociologist Doralda Tanellari, in an interview for CNA TV, says that violence has always been present, but recently women, who are more often victims of violence, are finding the courage to denounce and leave the abusers.

"Albanian society, being a patriarchal society, has always thought that the woman, mother, daughter is the property of the husband, father and partner, and often they have placed their hand, their mentality on these women and girls, saying that what they think is what should happen. We must give great importance to the way the family has changed today, the concept of the family and the woman's freedom to choose and say no in time to a person who is abusive. Violators should have a tab, be identified or placed in a register."

Although the economic factor has always been evaluated as one of the main factors that produces violence, according to Tanellar, the situations are now more complex and we cannot talk about just one factor.

"Previously, when we analyzed, we said that the economy was one of the main factors that led to the cases of conflicts. Today the cases are even more complex. Violence seems to be more harmful and extreme against the individual. Today you see that violence is done through online media, social networks, you cannot detect psychological violence until the moment it comes to you and denounces that there is psychological violence. Society does not understand that bullying or labeling someone is also violence. Psychological measures should be taken. Albanian culture is also involved, because it has not changed from today to tomorrow. It is often a prejudice that educated people do not commit violence. We often hear this and it seems very abusive to me. Violence knows no education or culture."
