Of the 848 re-registrations at driving schools of people who lost their license points due to offences, a low percentage managed to get it back and get back on the road as a driver.

The General Directorate of the Road Transport Service informed that the implementation of the legal acts of 2022 that toughened the measures against persons who do not respect the rules of road traffic has meant that the re-education does not result in the obtaining of a driving license by all those who lost it.

"All those who are considered contingent serious violators of traffic rules, repeaters in behavior that endangers themselves and others on the road, after the removal of license points, with the new acts in force for over a year now, to regain the right to drive, they must register again at the driving school and retake the theory-practice test!

Only 113 people out of 848 re-registrations in the driving school due to the removal of license points, have regained their Driving Permit during the period June 2022-January 2024!

In the last held session, out of 25 re-registrations, 14 candidates appeared and only 2 of them turned out to be winners! 848 re-registrations in driving schools and only 13.3% of them return to the road as drivers, this time even more responsible" says the DPSHTRR announcement.

According to the legal framework, all citizens who were provided with a driving license before 16.04.2015, who are part of the National Registry of Vehicle Drivers, have benefited from the system of 20 points. Drivers who became part of the National Register of Vehicle Drivers after 16.04.2015, the number of 20 points is given on the date they become part of this register.

The removal of points is done automatically in the system based on notifications for violations of the norms of behavior as provided for in chapter V of the Traffic Code.

All those who lose points on their license are obliged under the current legal framework to return to driving school and attend the normal theoretical and practical re-education course while on completion they will have to undergo the same test as anyone registered for first time. The theory test, based on behavioral norms, has 30 questions and fails with more than 3 mistakes. Measures for the re-education of problematic drivers aim at disciplining them on the road./ Monitor
