New study/ Consumption of processed foods causes brain problems

The new study published in "Neurology online" highlights the possible link between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and the negative impact on memory, cognitive abilities and brain health.

These foods are chips, cookies and soda.

Although this study is observational and does not prove a causal relationship, its attention to the potential risk of unhealthy food choices is important.

The author of the study, Dr. W. Taylor Kimberly, of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, points out that a healthy diet is essential for brain health at all stages of life, but it is still not known for sure what food choices are best for the brain.

The category of ultra-processed foods includes products high in added sugars, fat, and salt, while often low in protein and fiber.

On the other hand, raw or minimally processed foods, such as meat, vegetables, and fruits, offer more nutritional value.

These findings raise awareness of the importance of healthy food choices for brain health and overall health improvement.

Dangerous growth

The study, which followed over a period of about 11 years in 30,239 participants, aged 45 and older, has revealed potential links between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and the negative impact on memory and cognitive abilities, as well as the risk of strokes.

Overall, participants who consumed a higher amount of ultra-processed foods in their diet had a higher risk of cognitive impairment and stroke compared to those who preferred more natural and minimally processed foods.

In the study, a 10% increase in the amount of ultra-processed foods in the diet was associated with a 16% higher risk of cognitive impairment.

However, consumption of more unprocessed or minimally processed foods was associated with a lower risk of cognitive decline.

In terms of strokes, higher intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with an 8% higher risk of stroke, while consumption of more unprocessed foods was associated with a lower risk. event.

These findings highlight the importance of a healthy, balanced diet for brain health and overall health benefits.
