Mike Pence receives subpoena in former President Trump investigation

Former US Vice President Mike Pence received a subpoena from special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the investigation into efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

A person with knowledge of the matter confirmed the news to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Thursday.

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has subpoenaed former Vice President Pence in recent days to testify in the investigation into efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

The unlikely scenario of a former vice president testifying against his former boss in a criminal investigation comes as Mike Pence considers launching a 2024 presidential campaign against former President Trump. Relations between them cooled after a crowd of Mr. Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to stop the certification of victory in the 2020 presidential election of Democrat Joe Biden./VOA
