Touristic Thethi/Tourists from all over the world visit the Alps

The tourist village of Theth in Shkodra, in the heart of the northern Albanian Alps, has begun to become overcrowded with tourists from all over the world. Foreigners say that Theth's still unexplored natural beauty and the hospitality of the locals are two strong reasons that attract them to visit.

" I come from Germany. This is my first time here in Theth, while it's my second time in Albania. We came to see the northern Alps because last time we were in the southern parks. I really like the nature, the landscape and the very nice and friendly people here ," said a tourist.

" No, it's not difficult to walk here, everything is prepared for tourists and it's a comfortable walk. Very beautiful nature here in Theth and very nice people. I was in Albania for the first time 14 years ago when almost no one came and it wasn't even known on the internet. I said at the time it was an unexplored place and it attracted me to come. Today, after 14 years, there are big changes, many times more tourists ," said a tourist.

" I'm from America but I live in Scotland. It's my first time in Albania, a very beautiful country and very friendly people. Your country was suggested to me by some friends and I decided to come ," said another tourist.

The Blue Eye in Theth, nestled between mountains and greenery, is a trail that takes about an hour to walk and is one of the most popular spots. Some tourists dare to enter the cold water of 5 degrees Celsius.

" Very beautiful here but very cold water. I come from Australia and it's my first time in Albania. How did I hear about Theth? On Instagram and Tik Tok. I will suggest my friends to come here ," said a tourist.

"It's very cold in the water but you have to experience this feeling. I personally feel protected, I'm fine. The longer you stay in the water, the warmer your body becomes even though it initially feels very cold. It's not dangerous if you swim here near the shore. I'm from Iran and my girlfriend planned our vacation here in Albania and we came together. I like this place, beautiful nature, hospitable people and cheap prices too ," the tourist said about Theth.

Unlike previous years, tour operators say that this time there is a high number of tourists from France and Spain. What remains a concern are some infrastructure problems.

" This year the season has started earlier, the tourists are mainly from France and Spain. There are problems, the road inside Thethi is a concern, as are the power outages ," said one of the tourist operators, Leo Gjeloshi.

Drivers who drive through Theth every day say that the roads in the center of the village require reconstruction as soon as possible...

"There are many tourists, but the road to the center is not good, it needs to be reconstructed ," said a driver.

Thethi is expected to have an even greater influx of foreign tourists during the months of June, July and August than in previous years, while remaining one of the most popular tourist destinations in Albania./ CNA
