Pusteci, without young people, with elderly people and without a pharmacy

This is the view of a normal day in the Pustec area. CNA TV visited this municipality to see the conditions in which its residents live, but although we stayed for several hours, we only saw a few elderly people on the streets. As a minority municipality, young people have chosen to go towards North Macedonia, where there are more opportunities for employment and income. In recent years, it seems that this area has suffered a "terrible" abandonment by young people, while only the elderly are fanatics about staying in the 9 villages of this municipality.

Of the few residents we met on the streets of Pustec, only one of them told us what is happening in this area.

The reason for the departure of young people, according to the elderly, is the lack of employment.

"They left because they have nowhere to get a job. Is there anywhere to get a job? There isn't! This situation has been going on for 3-4 years or more. We old people stayed, you all left, we stayed."

The elderly people who have remained in the area, as the only incomes besides the pension, have livestock and agricultural land.

"For living with the cattle we keep, we also have land. We survive with this. It has always been difficult, from the time of Enver Hoxha until today."

What makes life more difficult is the lack of a pharmacy. There has never been one in Pustec, while residents find solutions at the local doctor and in the city of Korça.

"There isn't. There should be, but there isn't. We get the medicine in Korça. There must be more here. This whole area with 9 villages must have it to get the medicine. Sometimes we give the doctor the money, he brings it to us. medicines."

Pusteci is one of the most beautiful areas, with numerous tourist attractions, but despite the many investments made, it seems that it has not been possible to avoid depopulation./ CNA TV
