This June 16th, the city of Shkodra commemorated the murder of 17-year-old Pëllumb Pëllumbi, a martyr for democracy. He was killed on June 16th, 1990, at the border.

His sister, Lula Pëllumbi, asked that those who have contributed to the country's democracy be remembered, while saying that the greatest justice for these victims is to work for the future of the country and its youth.

" Today is the 35th anniversary of the murder of our brother Pëllumbi, it is also the 35th anniversary of the revolutionary demonstration. The youth of Shkodra at that time took the body of my brother accompanied by slogans against communism. I want to ask for change because we do not remember those who gave their lives for democracy enough. In our country, it was among the most brutal systems. And today we must move forward, I do not seek revenge but I want to move forward, " said Pëllumbi's sister.

 

The head of the Association of Politically Persecuted People in Shkodra, Zenel Drangu, has an appeal to the government to find the remains of those killed in Kuç.

 

" We commemorate Pëllumb Pëllumbi and many others who fell during the regime of Ramoz Ali. That regime ordered the post commanders to torture those they catch crossing the border. My appeal from Shkodra is for the government to find the remains of those who are no longer alive and whose families still do not know where their graves are ," said Drangu.

 

Regarding the works in the former Spaç prison, Drangu said that they do not have the right to alienate the meeting room by making it a modern room.

 

" They can make repairs but not transform the rooms by making them modern, they have no right to do that ," said Drangu.

35 years ago, Pëllumb Pëllumb was attempting to cross the border in search of a better life, but he was barbarically executed by people who still remained loyal to the regime./ CNA
