The DP's political leader for the Diaspora, Jozefina Topalli, stated in a television appearance that the role of immigrants in the May 11 elections is crucial for the political change that the opposition claims.
"The diaspora has an extraordinary potential to bring about political rotation in the country," said Topalli.
The former parliamentarian underlined that if Albania had a different electoral system, the diaspora's votes would translate into around 25 parliamentary mandates.
According to Topalli, the Diaspora remains a key factor in some electoral districts, where the balances are tight and every vote carries great weight.
Topalli said that diaspora votes have often been decisive for the formation of the government:
