May 11 elections/ Lamberto Zannier heads the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission

When some of the important determinations have been made and some of the key processes are being completed before the May 11 elections, the observation missions and their teams also make the occasional appointments.

The OSCE/ODIHR observation mission has appointed Mr. Lamberto Zannier as the head of the mission in our country for the parliamentary elections.

Who is Ambassador Lamberto Zannier?

Zannier graduated in law, he also has an honorary degree in "International and Diplomatic Sciences" from the University of Trieste, Italy.

Zannier joined the Italian Foreign Ministry as a career diplomat in 1978.

From June 2008 to June 2011, he held the position of UN Special Representative for Kosovo and Head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

From 2006 to 2008, he was Coordinator for CFSP and ESDP (now CSDP) at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dealing among other things with EU foreign policy issues and Italy's participation in EU operations, both civilian and military.

From 2002 to 2006, he was Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre, focused on politico-military issues as well as crisis management and responsible for managing OSCE field operations.

Ambassador Lamberto Zannier assumed the post of OSCE Secretary General on 1 July 2011. In July 2014, he began his second three-year term.

Previously, he served in Rome, Abu Dhabi and Vienna, mainly specializing in multilateral and security issues. He is the author of several publications on security issues, conflict prevention and crisis management. /CNA
