The leader of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, said today that he is happy that the opposition parties accepted his formula for running a non-partisan candidate in the Tirana Municipality elections.

In a television segment, Shehaj stated that it is important for the opposition to elect the candidate who has the most chance of winning.

Shehaj added that it is time for the opposition to give the capital an uncorrupted mayor.

"Of course I am happy about this and it shows that the opposition parties have accepted this formula, they want to get closer to victory in the November 9 elections. I am waiting for it positively and I am glad that Berisha called on other candidates. The more candidates we have, the better. They are candidates who have met the conditions and I am happy that they have expressed interest. I would like there to be others. The important thing is not who I prefer, but that we choose the candidate who has the most chances to win the next elections.

And we will do this through meetings or in a transparent and Western way. I made this proposal a few days ago. I also made a proposal to the opposition parties that want to support a candidate outside the political parties, all together to agree on a foreign Western company that within a few days can tell us who the winner could be. Within two days, I believe that the results of the survey can be released. The campaign will last a few weeks. A professional survey will be the best way to make a decision on the best candidate.

"I have been thinking about this formula for three months to have a candidate outside the political parties. The opposition will always be put in difficulty by the majority, but we will use the space we have and continue to work. Rama forced the president to go against the Constitution. We have been trying the same path for 12 years and we must try a new path. Let's give Tirana an uncorrupted mayor," said Shehaj. /CNA
