The Head of the Health Department at the Democratic Party, Ilir Alimehmeti, spoke at a press conference from the blue headquarters where he emphasized that according to the OECD report, Albania has the lowest per capita health spending in Europe, only 734 euros per capita per year.
Alimehmeti emphasized that this proves the failure of the Rama government in the so-called "Free Healthcare".
Dear citizens!
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in its report on the state of health in Europe in 2024, writes that Albania has the lowest per capita health spending in Europe, only 734 euros per capita per year.
In the same report, the OECD reports that:
Montenegro spends 217% more than Albania, or 1,593 euros per capita per year.
Serbia spends 207% more than Albania, or 1,517 euros per capita per year.
North Macedonia spends 56% more than Albania, or 1,142 euros per capita per year.
Bosnia and Herzegovina spends 46% more than Albania, or 1,072 euros per capita per year.
Turkey spends 36% more than Albania, or 1,000 euros per capita per year.
If we compare it to the European Union average, it is 481% more than in Albania, or 3,533 euros per capita per year.
This is the result of 12 years of "Free Healthcare"!
The latest in healthcare in the region, the latest in healthcare in Europe!
This value is the total of public and private spending, so it also includes the money that comes out of your pocket when you need health services!
I remind you that the WHO reported at the end of 2023 that 60% of health expenses come directly from your pocket, even this is the highest level in Europe, after 10 years of implementing the political lie called "Free Health".
I remind you that in 2013 the Socialist Party promised to increase public health spending to 5% of Gross Domestic Product, and after 12 years of writing the budget with their own hands, this value is only 2.9% of GDP: the lowest level of public health spending in Europe.
I also remind you that the Democratic Party, in the amendments requested for the 2025 budget, also requested an increase in public health spending to 5% of GDP for 2025, and then an annual increase of 1% until reaching the average of countries in the region.
What did the Socialist Party do, honorable citizens? The Socialist Party voted against increasing the health budget to 5% of GDP, which was in fact a vote against their own 2013 promise, showing that they are not serious about their electoral promises and do not intend to implement them. Not because they cannot, but because they do not want to and do not have the political will to do so!
This public underfunding of healthcare in Albania has created and deepened major problems and capacity limitations over the years.
The model of underfinancing healthcare that the Socialist Party has implemented not only fails to create a solution, but on the contrary, further deepens the wound that has been festering for years!
They cannot produce solutions for healthcare, because in fact they do not want a solution for healthcare.
The solution is provided by the Democratic Party's health program, which is based on four key links:
Accurate assessment of health problems,
Proper financing of the health sector,
Decentralization of health services, and
Implementation of performance criteria and essential levels of health care.
as a fundamental basis that can make possible the treatment of morbidity, the protection of life and the promotion of health in Albania, because:
The right to health must be protected at all costs!
The right to life must be protected at all costs! /CNA
